About Me         This is what I do - EVERYDAY.

Bio   My name is Anna Fung and I am a seasoned user experience and interface designer with over ten years of professional experience in the creative design industry. I started my design career in print - creating logos and brochures, and advertisements for magazines - and now my passion is in designing and developing useful and usable websites and web-based applications.

I love to work with diverse people and provide clients with well thought out technical and creative solutions for their business challenges. I am a true believer in that "anything is possible." If there's anything to be solved, I will figure it out!

Currently, I am working as a senior designer for the world's second largest biotech, Genentech Inc., since 2004. Prior to Genentech, I contracted at various corporations such as BEA Systems, Inc., ConnectSix, and Kennedy/Jenks Consultants as well as worked as a freelance designer on challenging and rewarding projects for financial institutions, small businesses, and my favorite - the Pasadena Unified School Destrict website.

During the dotcom days, I worked as a visual designer for a wonderful web agency/internet consultancy called Groundswell and I will always be grateful for having experienced the opportunity of working with some fantastic teams and talented individuals on exciting and challenging projects.

Prior to Groundswell, I worked as a web designer at Kaiser Permanente for two years where we were all busy developing web standards and solutions for Y2K.

Before 1998, I was a graphic designer creating corporate identity systems for a print shop in Hayward, CA as well as ads for the Computer Currents Magazine in Berkeley, CA.

Things I Like to Do to Keep My Creative Juices Flowing
  • Traveling, sight-seeing, learning new cultures, and capturing those experiences and images with my digital Canon ELPH ... then sharing them on Flickr.
  • Spending time with family and friends ... including my favorite canine duo and feathered friends.
  • Meeting other creative folks at design events and conferences.
  • Reading books and tons of architectural magazines - Faves: Trends, Dwell, Houses, Metropolitan Home ...
  • Listening to favorite songs on my iPod and snowboarding!
  • Gardening, painting, and making hand-made greeting cards for friends and family.

Fun Facts
  • I ran track for 5 years while in school. My height did not give me any competitive advantage (except for when the wind was blowing at its strongest) but I was damn fast when I was racing with the fastest opponents!

These days I aspire to work with a team that is largely more talented than me, so that I may continue to develop my skills, abilities, and creative vision. On the other side of the coin, I love to work with interns and junior designers because I like to mentor them and I learn tremendously from them as well as enjoy their refreshing enthusiasm, creative energy and positive, can-do attitude.
  • I tried my hand at acting and was a "reveller" in the blockbuster hit Matrix: Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions. I met Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, and the crew ... they are a very talented, athletic, and patient bunch (you have to be when you're repeating your lines all day).
  • I have a fascination with nature, clouds and water (ocean, waves, rivers, waterfalls).
